The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is conducting Exercise Daring Warrior, a live-firing exercise, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, USA, from 4 to 23 November 2019. The exercise involves approximately 180 SAF and United States (US) Army personnel. First held in 2010, this is the eighth edition of the exercise.
The highlight of the exercise was a combined live-firing by the Singapore Army and the US Army featuring the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) operated by the 23rd Battalion, Singapore Artillery and the US Army 1-14 Field Artillery Battalion.
Chief Artillery Officer Colonel Adrian Teng, who visited the SAF soldiers during the exercise, said, "Our soldiers have trained hard for this exercise, which marks the high point of their Full-time National Service journey. They have successfully and safely achieved the exercise objectives through their professionalism and resilience, having adapted very well to the harsh weather and challenging terrain. We appreciate the opportunity for professional interaction with the US Army, to learn from their experiences in military tactics and the operation of the HIMARS platform."
Exercise Daring Warrior underscores the excellent and long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and the US. The SAF's training in the US provides invaluable opportunities for professional exchanges between the two armed forces, which have helped strengthen cooperation and deepen people-to-people ties. The vast training space in the US also allows the SAF to train realistically to sharpen its operational competencies and enhance its operational readiness.
