Statement on Cancellation of Shangri-La Dialogue 2021

The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) has decided, in close consultation with the Singapore Government, not to convene the Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) this year, due to the continued uncertainties surrounding the global and local COVID-19 situation. The Singapore Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) supports this decision to cancel the SLD this year. Although regretful, it is the responsible course, with the health and safety of the local community and participants as the foremost consideration.
The cancellation of the SLD in no way reflects any reduced commitment to dialogue and engagement to ensure peace and stability in Asia and beyond. MINDEF will find alternative and safer avenues for these important goals.
We thank our international partners for their continued support for the SLD, and look forward to welcoming them to Singapore when the global COVID-19 situation allows.
