The SAF Merit Scholarship was introduced in 1983 to recruit top students from each cohort of school-leavers for the SAF. This year's recipients of the scholarship will be pursuing their undergraduate studies in renowned universities in the United States or the United Kingdom. When they complete their tertiary education, they will assume various appointments that will groom them for senior command and leadership positions in the SAF.
The Defence Merit Scholarship was first awarded in 2002. Since then, the scholarship has attracted many top students and groomed them for senior management positions in the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF). With the wide-ranging jobs available in MINDEF, these scholars can look forward to rewarding and challenging careers that will develop their potential to the fullest.
