Chief of Defence Force, Major-General (MG) Perry Lim, inspecting the contingents on parade at the 27th Specialist Cadet Graduation Parade at Pasir Laba Camp.
Chief of Defence Force, Major-General (MG) Perry Lim, reviewed the 27th Specialist Cadet Graduation Parade at Pasir Laba Camp this evening. A total of 1,206 Specialist Cadets (SCTs), comprising 1,080 from the Singapore Army, 79 from the Republic of Singapore Navy and 47 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force graduated as specialists of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Addressing the graduands at the parade, MG Lim spoke about the continued role that the specialists would play in securing Singapore's peace and security. "Our ability to respond decisively to threats lies in not just in our military hardware or fighting structures, but also in the continued competence, commitment and fighting spirit of our people…it is important to have strong leadership across all ranks in the SAF. Not just at the highest echelon, but also amongst the junior ranks, and this includes each and every one of you in the Parade today" he said. MG Lim also reminded the graduands of their responsibility as commanders in helping their subordinates understand the importance of National Service (NS). He said, "As leaders, you will need to give your soldiers a sense of purpose for what they are doing…we are depending on you to help them see the need and importance of defending our country. It is only when our people recognise and internalise their role in Singapore's security and survival that our nation’s success can be sustained."
The graduation parade marked the completion of the 22-week Specialist Cadet Course, where the graduands trained under rigorous and realistic conditions to develop leadership and combat skills, and deepen their understanding of the other vocations in the SAF. Present at the parade were families, friends and senior SAF officers.
