The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) will return to VivoCity from 23 to 26 June 2016 for Navy@Vivo 2016. Themed "Maritime Force for a Maritime Nation", visitors will be treated to exhibits that showcase the RSN's fighting technologies and capabilities, get up close and personal with the RSN's weapons and equipment, as well as have opportunities to interact with the men and women from the RSN. The RSN's Formidable-class stealth frigate RSS Tenacious, together with a Sikorsky S-70B naval helicopter, will be open for public visits at VivoCity Promenade. The event will be launched by Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Lai Chung Han, at the opening ceremony on 23 June 2016.
The event will feature shore exhibits such as a 3D mock-up of a submarine to allow visitors to see and feel what it is like to live on board the submarine. Visitors can also experience firing a naval ship's gun at the Littoral Mission Vessel (LMV) simulator. Weapons and equipment used by the RSN's Naval Diving Unit will be on display, and there will be photo opportunities for visitors with the naval divers and members of the Accompanying Sea Security Team. The public will also be able to observe the conduct of the RSN's ceremonial sunset, a long-standing naval tradition, at 7pm daily during the event.
As part of the Navy@Vivo experience and the RSN's continuing community outreach efforts, the RSN hosted 29 beneficiaries from some charity organisations on board RSS Tenacious as they sailed with the crew from Changi Naval Base to VivoCity earlier today. The beneficiaries were given a tour of the frigate and got a first-hand look at how the crew worked together during the transit.
Chairman of Navy@Vivo 2016, Military Expert (ME) 7 Andy Tay, hopes that the event will bring the Navy closer to the public. "The RSN has grown over the years into a strong and capable maritime force, in tandem with maritime Singapore. With visits to RSS Tenacious and the exhibition at VivoCity, we hope to share with the public some of our capabilities and what the Navy is doing to protect the sea lanes that carry our maritime trade - the backbone of our economy," said ME7 Tay.
Ship visits are open to the public from 9am to 9pm and exhibitions are open from 10am to 10pm from 23 to 26 June. More information can be found on the RSN Facebook Page www.facebook.com/singaporenavy.
