Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen hosted Indonesian Defence Minister General (GEN) (Rtd) Ryamizard Ryacudu to a lunch today, in conjunction with the Singapore Airshow 2016 (SA16).
Both sides reaffirmed the close bilateral defence relationship and discussed initiatives to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest, including dealing with the threat posed by extremist groups like ISIS. As part of his visit to SA16, GEN (Rtd) Ryamizard also viewed the aerial display and toured the SA16 Exhibition.
There were also several high-level interactions between the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) on the sidelines of SA16, including between Chief of Air Force Major-General Hoo Cher Mou and Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Agus Supriatna. In addition, the TNI also sent a delegation of 50 officers to visit SA16. These people-to-people interactions are an important element of the relationship between the SAF and the TNI, as they build mutual understanding and trust.
