Aerostat to meet stringent requirements before acceptance
The aerostat has not been deployed due to delays in delivery. The aerostat is still undergoing rigorous testing by the manufacturer to ensure that it meets the RSAF's stringent operational requirements and high safety standards.
When deployed, the aerostat will have several safety features. It will be secured to its ground mooring station with high-strength winch lines and a Kevlar tether built to withstand strong winds and lightning strikes. Radiation emissions from the radar equipment on the aerostat will be as safe as that of mobile phones, and will be certified in accordance with the IEEE C95.1-2005 standard - the same standard applied to certify the safety of mobile phones and microwave ovens.
The RSAF will apply safety procedures that are in line with the regulations developed by the US Federal Aviation Authority for the operation of aerostats.
The RSAF has also been working with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore to plan the safe operations of the aerostat in Singapore's airspace. The location of the aerostat's deployment will be announced at a later date.?
