Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen hosted a dinner reception for key appointment holders of the National Day Parade (NDP) 2016 organising committee, participating organisations and sponsors in recognition of their support and contributions towards NDP 2016. During the event, Dr Ng presented certificates of appreciation to the Gold award recipients to thank them for their hard work and dedication. There are 191 recipients of the Gold award this year.
In his speech, Dr Ng highlighted that NDP 2016 was the first NDP in the new National Stadium after a decade, and that it was a resounding success especially since it was coming immediately after the Golden Jubilee Celebrations last year. He shared how NDP 2016 brought Singaporeans together to look forward to the future and reminded Singaporeans to grow as an inclusive society in the next chapter of nation-building. He added that the successful parade was the result of the hard work, sacrifices and generous contributions of key appointment holders, participating organisations and sponsors.
Dr Ng also announced that next year's NDP would be held at the Marina Bay floating platform. He said, "Each site has its unique charm and fans among Singaporeans…MINDEF/SAF has decided to hold NDP 2017 at the floating platform."
This year's NDP theme, "Building our Singapore of Tomorrow", also galvanised and united Singaporeans, and served as a call to action for Singaporeans to build their future collectively. With over 10,000 show participants, this year's parade featured new elements such as aerial performers and props, 3D projection mapping, unmanned systems and indoor fireworks. A record number of 275,000 spectators watched the NE shows, Previews and NDP.Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Perry Lim will present the Silver Awards at a separate appreciation event next week. There are 604 Silver award recipients this year.
