The Chief of Army of the New Zealand Defence Force Major-General (MG) Peter Kelly called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this morning. MG Kelly, who is in Singapore for an introductory visit from 13 to 17 April 2016, also called on Chief of Defence Force MG Perry Lim and Chief of Army Brigadier-General Melvyn Ong, and inspected a Guard of Honour at MINDEF. As part of his programme, MG Kelly will visit the Multi-Mission Range Complex, HQ Army Intelligence and the Airborne-Trooper Training Facility.
MG Kelly's visit underscores the close and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and New Zealand. Both armies interact regularly through bilateral training exercises, such as Exercise Lion Walk and Exercise Kiwi Walk, professional exchanges and cross-attendance of courses. Both armies share a history of operational cooperation and also interact under the ambit of the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) and the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus). These extensive interactions have enhanced the interoperability between the two armies, as well as the professional rapport and ties between their personnel.
