The Chief of Army of the Australian Defence Force Lieutenant General (LTGEN) Angus Campbell calling on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF).
The Chief of Army of the Australian Defence Force Lieutenant General (LTGEN) Angus Campbell called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) this morning. LTGEN Campbell, who is in Singapore for his introductory visit from 17 to 19 September 2015, also called on Chief of Defence Force Major-General Perry Lim and Chief of Army Brigadier-General Melvyn Ong, after inspecting a Guard of Honour at MINDEF earlier today. LTGEN Campbell will speak at the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College as part of the Distinguished Speakers' Programme, before visiting the Murai Urban Live Firing Facility and Singapore Armed Forces Centre for Military Experimentation later today.
LTGEN Campbell's visit underscores the close and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and Australia. The Singapore and Australian armies interact regularly through bilateral training exercises such as Exercise Matilda and Exercise Trident, professional exchanges, and the cross-attendance of professional courses. Both armies also share a history of operational cooperation, such as the multinational reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan. These extensive interactions have not only enhanced the interoperability and professionalism of the two armies, but also deepened the professional rapport and friendship between their personnel. In line with the spirit of the Singapore-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed by both Prime Ministers on 29 June 2015, both armies will be working together to further strengthen bilateral defence ties and explore new initiatives for military training and cooperation.
