In response to media queries on Indonesia declining Singapore's assistance to fight haze, the following MINDEF statement was issued:
"The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) confirms that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is not deploying to assist Indonesia in fighting the forest fires in Sumatra at the moment. While the Indonesian authorities accepted our offer of assistance initially, they have since expressed appreciation for the offer, and said they have sufficient resources of their own for now.
MINDEF/SAF remains in close contact with the Indonesia authorities and stands ready to help if required."
