Minister for Defence Visits International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition in Langkawi

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen attended the opening ceremony of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2015 (LIMA 15) in Malaysia this morning. At the invitation of the Malaysian government, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is also participating in LIMA 15 with two Republic of Singapore Air Force Black Knights F-16 fighter aircraft for the aerial display, a Republic of Singapore Navy Formidable-class stealth frigate RSS Stalwart, embarked with a Sikorsky S-70B naval helicopter, and a patrol vessel, RSS Sovereignty, in the maritime display.
During his visit to LIMA 15, Dr Ng interacted with SAF personnel participating in the exhibition. Dr Ng is accompanied by Permanent Secretary for Defence Mr Chan Yeng Kit, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Ng Chee Meng, Chief of Air Force Major-General Hoo Cher Mou and Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Lai Chung Han. Earlier in the day, Dr Ng, together with his ASEAN counterparts, also met with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak after the conclusion of the 9th ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting held in Langkawi.
The SAF has participated in LIMA since 2001, underscoring the warm and long-standing defence ties between Singapore and Malaysia. Both armed forces interact regularly through bilateral and multilateral exercises, professional exchanges and cross-attendance of courses.
