The Commitment to Defence (C2D) Ambassadors Programme aims to strengthen our National Education (NE) efforts through tapping on suitable members of the Singapore Armed Forces Veterans' League (SAFVL) and Operationally Ready National Servicemen as volunteers to engage and inspire the younger generation of Singaporeans, and strengthen community support for defence and security. This was one of the recommendations made by the Committee to Strengthen National Service (CSNS).
These volunteers - known as C2D Ambassadors - are individuals who have served with distinction in their military careers, lived through significant historical events (e.g. 1964 racial riots), and/or participated in key military operations (e.g. Konfrontasi), and are passionate about imparting values through sharing of their personal experiences.
The C2D Ambassadors will conduct their engagements with National Servicemen, Regulars and students (e.g. from secondary schools and post-secondary education institutions) at the Singapore Discovery Centre, SAF Leadership Schools and education institutions. During these engagements, the C2D Ambassadors will speak about significant historical events and past military operations, highlight important NE lessons, as well as share personal stories about their struggles, experiences and successes in the face of adversity.
The programme will also equip the C2D Ambassadors with the necessary skills, facilitation techniques, and content development support. This includes helping to develop relevant videos the C2D Ambassadors could use in their sharing and engagements.
To date, 49 volunteers have been appointed as C2D Ambassadors.
