The National Education Gaming Championship (NEGC) 2015 was held from 26 to 28 June 2015 at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College Central. The Awards Ceremony this afternoon was officiated by Director Nexus, Colonel (COL) Roland Ng. Addressing the students, COL Ng said, "This year marks 50 years of the SAF. Many of you would have, or will be going to National Service in a few years' time. I hope that you will do your best to build upon the legacy that the pioneers have built. Through your NEGC experience, you will realise that what you cannot defend, you cannot own."
This was the fifth run of the NEGC organised by the Ministry of Defence and supported by the Ministry of Education. A record number of 60 schools participated in this year's competition.
ITE College Central was crowned champions at this year's NEGC, with Regent Secondary School and Seng Kang Secondary School coming in second and third respectively. Second-time participant and captain of the winning team from ITE College Central, Willy Goh, said, "NEGC enables me to have a better understanding of what it feels like to be in the SAF, and I am able to appreciate what the SAF goes through during different military scenarios." Captain of Regent Secondary School's team, Jaspar Chong, talked about how NEGC was an interesting platform to learn more about the 3rd Generation SAF. He said, "NEGC simulates the real-life battlefield and it also increased our knowledge of the SAF's capabilities." Team Captain Angelene Joshua, who represented the all-girls team from Crescent Girls' School, said, "Through NEGC, we learnt why defence is important and why we must not take our safety in Singapore for granted. We also learnt important skills such as the need to strategise and communicate as a team."
Before competing in the NEGC, all participating teams went through a training session to hone their skills in Virtual Battlespace 2 (VBS2), the simulation training software that is used for NEGC. They also had the opportunity to hear from Commitment to Defence Ambassadors (C2D Ambassadors) about their involvement in significant historical events and key military operations.
