Minister of State for Defence Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman officiated at the 9th Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Senior Military Expert Appointment Ceremony at SAFTI Military Institute this evening, where 125 servicemen and servicewomen were appointed as senior military experts. The graduating cohort comprised 15 from the Singapore Army, 24 from the Republic of Singapore Navy, 72 from the Republic of Singapore Air Force and 14 from Joint. This is the largest graduating cohort since the first appointment ceremony in 2011, and is due to increased requirement for military experts in specialised domains as the SAF becomes more technologically advanced.
During his speech, Dr Maliki highlighted the importance of the military experts' deep specialisation in niche areas due to increasing threats to the nation's security. He said, "The spirit of innovation of finding effective solutions to tackle problems and overcome our constraints has long been in the DNA of the SAF. The ability to push the envelope to achieve the best outcome for Singapore's defence, which is so crucial for a small country like us, would not have been possible without our people's deep expertise and specialised knowledge." Addressing the graduands, Dr Maliki said, "I call upon all of you, as leaders of the SAF, to never stop learning, to continue to innovate and adapt for your mission, and to lead your people with dedication and passion."
The Senior Military Expert Appointment Ceremony marked the completion of the Military Domain Experts Course which trains military experts to assume roles in the SAF where in-depth expertise in areas such as engineering, intelligence, military medical knowledge is required. The training conducted during the course develops and hones the military experts' leadership competency, military domain knowledge and specialised skills. The newly appointed senior military experts will move on to assume command or staff appointments in their professional areas in the SAF.
Also present at the ceremony were Chief of Air Force Major-General (MG) Hoo Cher Mou, Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Lai Chung Han, Chief of Army MG Perry Lim, senior SAF officers as well as families and friends of the graduands.
