In response to a query to with regard to a tender put up by DSTA on Gebiz for 10,000 taxi trips for the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games (18 May - 19 Jun 15), MCO has issued the following reply:
The transport requirements for the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games were put up by the Transport Functional Area (TPT FA) which is part of the Singapore SEA Games Organising Committee (SINGSOC). The SINGSOC is made up of members from various people, public and private sectors with Sport Singapore as the lead agency. The requirement of 10,000 taxi trips is intended to support the travelling needs of an estimated 10,000 participants and officials, for a period of 33 days from Pre- to Post-SEA Games.
The SINGSOC opted to engage taxi companies as taxi trips are a cost-effective and efficient mode of transport especially for small groups. For other past major events, similar transport arrangements were made for the participants and officials. To ensure efficient usage, participants and officials who wish to utilise the transport service for official duties will be required to make an advance booking through TPT FA, SINGSOC. Taxis are not booked for a full day period and are not put on stand-by. The taxis trips will augment the usage of buses and cars, all of which cater to the travel needs of the participants and officials.
Taxi companies that participate in this initiative are expected to adhere to the Land Transport Authority's Taxi Availability and Quality of Service standards during the contract period to ensure that there is an adequate supply and service delivery of taxis to cater to public demand. These taxi companies would also need to manage their own resources to meet both regulatory and contractual obligations.
