SAF Participates in Multilateral Exercise in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand

The opening ceremony of Exercise Cobra Gold 2015 was conducted earlier today in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand.

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is participating in the multilateral Exercise Cobra Gold from 9 to 20 February 2015 in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand. Co-hosted by the United States Pacific Command (US PACOM) and the Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTARF), this year's exercise also includes participants from the Republic of Korea Armed Forces, Indonesian National Defence Forces, Malaysian Armed Forces, and Japan Self-Defense Force.

The 39-member SAF contingent is led by Commander 9th Division Brigadier-General Chiang Hock Woon. The SAF personnel will undertake various roles within the Multinational Combined Task Force alongside their counterparts from the other participating countries. On the sidelines of the exercise, an SAF team will also be presenting at a medical symposium on the topic of "Malaria: Insights and Experience from the Singapore Armed Forces."

Exercise Cobra Gold promotes mutual understanding, friendship and professionalism among the personnel of the participating armed forces. The 34th in the series, this year's exercise focuses on peace support and maritime security operations. Representatives from six other countries are also involved as observers in the exercise. The SAF has been a full participant of this multilateral exercise since 2000.
