Singapore and Brunei Mark 20th Anniversary of Exercise Maju Bersama

Second Minister for Defence Mr Lui Tuck Yew and Bruneian Deputy Minister of Defence Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat visited Singapore Army and Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF) troops participating in Exercise Maju Bersama today at Ulu Benutan, Brunei. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the bilateral exercise, which is being held from 13 to 24 April 2015. Mr Lui and Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat were accompanied by Chief of Army Major-General Perry Lim and Commander RBLF Brigadier General Pengiran Dato Paduka Aminan bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud.
During their visit, Mr Lui and Dato Paduka Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat witnessed a company assault and interacted with troops from the 3rd Battalion Singapore Guards and 2nd Battalion RBLF. Mr Lui, who is in Brunei for an official visit from 23 to 24 April 2015, will also meet with Bruneian Minister of Development, Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, and Minister of Communications, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar.
The 20th anniversary of Exercise Maju Bersama underscores the close and long-standing defence ties between Singapore and Brunei. The exercise, which has grown in complexity since 1995, enhances the interoperability between the two armies and fosters mutual understanding. Apart from bilateral exercises, the Singapore Army and the RBLF also interact through frequent professional exchanges and visits.
