Dr Ng Meets Chinese Leaders in Beijing

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen met with Minister of National Defense GEN Chang Wanquan today. Dr Ng and GEN Chang exchanged views on a number of issues, including bilateral defence cooperation and the regional security architecture. Dr Ng and GEN Chang agreed on a Four-Point Consensus to enhance bilateral defence ties between the two countries, by promoting greater understanding, trust, and friendship between both defence establishments through high-level strategic dialogues, interactions, and exercises. Dr Ng and GEN Chang also discussed the role that both sides can play in forging regional peace and stability. Following their meeting, Dr Ng and GEN Chang also released a Joint Press Release reaffirming the two sides' commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation.
While in Beijing, Dr Ng also met Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao. During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the excellent state of bilateral relations and the substantive cooperation across many sectors between Singapore and China since establishing diplomatic relations almost 25 years ago.
Dr Ng also met with Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission General (GEN) Xu Qiliang. In his meeting with GEN Xu, Dr Ng and GEN Xu noted the good progress made in the bilateral defence relationship in recent years, and expressed confidence in enhancing bilateral defence ties particularly as both countries commemorate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-Singapore diplomatic relations in 2015.
Dr Ng delivered a speech on "The Asian Century" at the PLA National Defense University (NDU) yesterday. Addressing an audience of students from the Graduate School of the PLA NDU, Dr Ng spoke about the great promises for all to reap in this Asian century, and China's crucial role in maintaining peace and stability in the region and beyond.
Dr Ng's visit to China is part of the regular exchange of high-level bilateral and defence visits by top leaders of Singapore and China. Dr Ng wraps up his official visit to China today.
