Defence Engineers and Scientists Honoured For Technological Innovation

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen presented the Defence Technology Prize (DTP) to three individuals and five teams at the DTP award ceremony held at the Fusionopolis Genexis Theatre this afternoon. Among them are individuals and teams from Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) agencies, defence industry, academic and research institutes.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Dr Ng highlighted the importance of the defence technology community in enhancing the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF)'s operational capabilities. He said, "Whether it is in the field of communicating to one another, control of ideas, control systems, or weaponry, your community - the defence scientists, technologists and engineers - play key roles." Dr Ng also expressed gratitude towards the defence technology community for their role in keeping SAF's technological edge. "Let me thank all of you in this community for enabling the SAF to become the technologically advanced fighting force it is today." he noted.
Established in 1989, the DTP is awarded annually to individuals and teams that have made significant technological contributions to the defence capability of Singapore. The DTP also serves to foster technological innovation and encourage breakthroughs in defence science and technology.

Mr Tan Ah Tuan clinched the Individual DTP 2014 (R&D) Award for leading the development of the cyber defence architecture in the MINDEF and the SAF.

The key members of the team behind the Navy Datalink System, a joint project by DSO, DSTA and the RSN which won the DTP 2014 Team (Engineering) Award - (from left) Team leader Mr Chee Choon Meng, Mr Chan Ann Kai, Mr Harry Han, Ms Caroline Lee, Mr Dawson Tan, and Senior Lieutenant Colonel Chen Yuanxin. Mr Han also received the DTP Individual (R&D) Award for developing tactical network protocols.
