Singapore and China Reaffirm Bilateral Defence Ties

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen met China's Minister of National Defence and State Councillor GEN Chang Wanquan on the sidelines of the 8th ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 19 May 2014.
During the meeting, the Ministers reaffirmed the warm and friendly bilateral defence relations between the two countries. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress of bilateral and multilateral exchanges between the People's Liberation Army and the Singapore Armed Forces. Dr Ng and GEN Chang discussed regional developments, including the situation in the South China Sea (SCS). GEN Chang reaffirmed China's commitment to maintain regional peace and stability.
The ASEAN and Chinese Defence Ministers had an informal meeting on 20 May 2014. They agreed that China can play a constructive role in building mutual trust and confidence in the region through platforms like the ADMM-Plus.
