Background
The Murai Urban Live Firing Facility (MULFAC), to be located in the Lim Chu Kang Live Firing Area, will support integrated combined arms Urban Operations training and mission rehearsals and is designed to complement the Multi-Mission Range Complex (MMRC) in developing our soldiers' urban marksmanship skills. While the MMRC builds up marksmanship competencies at the individual, group and section level, the MULFAC focuses on collective urban live firing for platoon- and company- level training. The MULFAC is scheduled to be launched in the latter half of 2014.
Enhanced Training Realism and Soldier Experience
Comprising five multi-storey buildings, the MULFAC allows forces to manoeuvre from building to building as part of their assault on the objective. Forces can fire on the external façade - built using ballistic absorbing concrete to prevent ricochet hazards from ballistic rounds of up to 7.62mm calibre - allowing troops to experience the realism of manoeuvring and employing sniper fire and close fire support from TERREX and BIONIX platforms. The interior of the MULFAC is also lined with ballistic material to absorb or shatter bullets upon impact, enabling soldiers to conduct room clearing drills and engage the enemy targets within. In addition, the bulletproof and shatterproof main entry and exit points permit soldiers to employ various methods of entry into the MULFAC.
The MULFAC is able to provide realistic scenario-based training. Enemy and civilian targets based on different operational scenarios can be programmed to hone our soldiers' instinctive and judgmental shooting skills. Instrumented with videocapturing capabilities, the MULFAC also facilitates feedback and accelerates the learning process.
