Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen launched the "RSAF45@Heartlands - Celebrating 45 Years of Defending Our Skies" exhibition at Toa Payoh HDB Hub this afternoon. The exhibition commemorates the Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF) 45th anniversary and features different segments showcasing the RSAF's history and heritage, operational capabilities and readiness as well as servicemen’s professionalism and commitment.
On the decision to bring the exhibition to the heartlands, Commander Paya Lebar Air Base and Deputy Chairman of the RSAF45@Heartlands Executive Committee Colonel Randy Ong explained, "RSAF45@Heartlands is a culmination of the RSAF's celebration of our 45th anniversary with our fellow Singaporeans. As much as it is about celebrating 45 years of our Air Force with Singaporeans, this series of RSAF45@Heartlands exhibitions is also about letting our fellow Singaporeans understand the RSAF and our operations."
Accompanied by Chief of Air Force Major-General Hoo Cher Mou, Dr Ng interacted with servicemen who were involved in the RSAF's 24/7 Air Defence operations, Search and Rescue operations, as well as with those who had been previously deployed to Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions. Dr Ng also viewed static displays such as the Hermes 450 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and the Surface-to-air PYthon-5 and DERby Ground-Based Air Defence system. Also present at the exhibition launch were Minister of State for Defence Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Member of Parliament from Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC Mr Hri Kumar, grassroots leaders from the community, and senior commanders from the RSAF.
The RSAF45@Heartlands exhibition will also be at Jurong East from 16 to 17 August, at Sengkang from 23 to 24 August and at Yishun from 30 to 31 August 2014.
