Fact Sheet: RSN's Participation in Exercise RIMPAC

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) has been participating in the biennial multilateral Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) maritime exercise since 2008. Over the years, the RSN's role in the exercise has grown. The RSN assumed command duties in 2012 where Formidable-class frigate RSS Formidable commanded a task unit comprising four other warships from Australia, Canada, Japan and the United States. This year, RSN's Formidable-class frigate RSS Intrepid is taking charge of another task unit comprising four warships from Chile, Norway and the United States.

In addition, the RSN has conducted multiple successful live-firings over the years. A Harpoon Surface-to-Surface (SSM) and an Aster Surface-to-Air (SAM) missile live-firing were conducted in 2008 and 2010 respectively. In 2012, the RSS Formidable successfully conducted a simultaneous dual warshot firing of two Harpoon SSMs. In 2014, RSS Intrepid successfully fired another Aster SAM missile in a realistic operational setting.
