In response to media queries on RSAF's F-16 Upgrade, MINDEF issued the following reply:The F-16s have served the Singapore Armed Forces well and remain the backbone of our fighter fleet. The older F-16s, some of which have been in service for more than 15 years, require an upgrade to extend their lifespan.
The Congressional Notification is a notification to the US Congress for the possible sale of military equipment and not a formal contract of purchase. Programme negotiations are still ongoing, and MINDEF will ensure all our operational requirements are fulfilled before committing to the upgrade programme.
