Mr Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap: To ask the Minister for Defence what are the factors or criteria that are used to determine the full-time National Service placement of individuals, whether serving in the police force, armed forces or civil defence force.
Dr Ng Eng Hen: The deployment of Full-time National Servicemen (NSFs) to the Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Civil Defence Force and Singapore Police Force takes into account the operational and manpower requirements of each of these uniformed services, as well as the suitability of the individual to perform various vocational roles based on his medical fitness and aptitude.
It is the aim of the Home Team and the SAF that every NSF will regard his assigned duties as an important and meaningful role in the defence and security of Singapore. We will continue to examine ways to optimise the roles and contributions of our national servicemen.
