Singapore and the US Reaffirmed Bilateral Defence Relations During the Singapore Airshow 2014

United States Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics Frank Kendall called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen today at the Changi Exhibition Centre in conjunction with the Singapore Airshow 2014 (SA14). Mr Kendall's visit underscores the excellent and long-standing bilateral defence relationship between the US and Singapore.

During the meeting both sides affirmed the strong bilateral defence technology relationship which has enabled the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) to steadily build up its combat capabilities through the years. Mr Kendall's delegation comprises twelve heads of delegations with about 40 senior officials from the US Department of Defense. Three solo aerobatics teams from the US will also be performing during the Airshow.

Dr Ng also met with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister General Tea Banh and French Secretary-General for Defence and National Security Francis Delon earlier today as well as Omani Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs His Excellency Sayyid Badr Bin Saud Al Busaidi at MINDEF yesterday.

Second Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing also received calls at the Changi Exhibition Centre from Chief of Air Force of the Royal Australian Air Force Air Marshal Geoff Brown, Indian Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, Italian Undersecretary of State for Defence Roberta Pinotti, Japanese Chief of Staff of the Japan Air Self Defense Force General Harukazu Saitoh, Republic of Korea Air Force Chief of Staff General Sung Il-Hwan and Sri Lankan Secretary of Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

As part of his visit to SA14, Dr Ng launched the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) 45th Anniversary commemorative book. The RSAF is celebrating its 45th anniversary at the Singapore Airshow 2014 from 11 to 16 February at the Changi Exhibition Centre. RSAF45@SA features an RSAF pavilion that will allow visitors to experience the RSAF's transformation and the RSAF Black Knights are performing at the Singapore Airshow.
