The Straits Times recently wrote in with queries on the SAF’s new C2D Ambassadors programme - one of the recommendations from the Committee to Strengthen National Service (CSNS)’s efforts to strengthen National Education (NE). In response to media requests for MINDEF's response, MINDEF issued the following statement:
"One of the Committee to Strengthen National Service (CSNS)'s recommendations was to strengthen National Education (NE) efforts through tapping on suitable members of the Singapore Armed Forces Veterans League (SAFVL) and NSmen as volunteers to engage and inspire the younger generation of Singaporeans, and strengthen community support for defence and security. These volunteers are individuals who have served with distinction in their military careers, experienced various significant military operations and historical events (e.g. Konfrontasi and racial riots), and are passionate about imparting values through sharing their personal and rich operational experiences.
The Commitment to Defence (C2D) Ambassadors programme aims to help our volunteers be better equipped in engaging young Singaporeans, including active servicemen, NSmen and students. To be called C2D Ambassadors, these volunteers will receive advice on facilitation techniques and be supported with relevant content to enhance their effectiveness in engaging the audience. These ambassadors are expected to begin their engagement efforts, which will be conducted at the Singapore Discovery Centre, SAF Leadership Schools and education institutions, from early 2015."
