The Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) Formidable-class frigate, RSS Intrepid, called at the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force's (JMSDF) Yokosuka Naval Base from 20 to 25 Aug 2014. The port call saw an exchange of ship visits between the personnel of the two navies.
Following the port call, RSS Intrepid conducted a sea exercise with JMSDF destroyer, JS Yuudachi, which comprised of helicopter cross-deck landings, tactical manoeuvring, communication drills and sea-riding to enhance interoperability between the two navies.
Singapore and Japan enjoy warm and friendly defence ties. The professional and personal interactions during the port call have enhanced greater mutual understanding and cooperation between the two navies.
RSS Intrepid sailed to Japan after participating in the Rim of the Pacific exercise in Hawaii earlier this month.
