Senior Minister of State for Defence Chan Chun Sing officiated at the opening ceremony of Navy Open House (NOH) 2013 at Changi Naval Base this morning. Following a Dynamic Display of the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN's) capabilities at the opening ceremony, Mr Chan toured the NOH with members of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Defence and Foreign Affairs and members of the public.
Opened to the public on 18 and 19 May 2013, this year's NOH allows the public to experience the life of a sailor. Besides the perennial favourites such as visits, rides and cruises on naval ships and craft, the public will also have the chance to interact with the men and women of the Navy, and have a first-hand experience with some of the equipment used by the RSN. This includes the firing of guns, climbing of Jacob's Ladder and viewing the mock-up interior of a submarine. "I hope the public will get to find out more about the Navy while enjoying themselves at the exhibits, ship visits and rides. All our navy personnel are geared up to receive our guests and share with them our lives at sea," said ME6 Terence Ong, Chief Organising Secretariat for Navy Open House 2013.
In addition, visitors will also be shown how the RSN operates with other Services in the SAF as an integrated fighting force. For the first time, warships from other navies will be taking part in the NOH. The public will get to visit these foreign warships from Australia, India, Indonesia and the United States.
Members of the Advisory Council on Community Relations in Defence, representatives from the Singapore National Employers Federation, Singapore Business Federation, Total Defence Award winners, Civil Resource owners as well as Trade Union leaders were hosted by Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman to a visit at the Navy Open House on 16 and 17 May 2013. Separately, Dr Maliki will also host representatives from the Women Groups and grassroots organisations on 18 and 19 May 2013.
