The Maritime Information-Sharing Exercise (MARISX) 2013 is a scenario-driven shorebased exercise to validate linkages among participating operation centres and to practice the information-sharing processes among regional navies. MARISX 2013 will take place at the Multinational Operations and Exercises Centre, located in the Changi Command and Control Centre, from 13 to 18 May 2013. To add to the realism of MARISX 2013, the exercise scenario will be adapted from maritime incidents such as the hijacking of vessels and piracy at sea. Exercise participants will practise information-sharing and sense-making, by using an information-sharing portal designed for MARISX. A total of 72 International Liaison Officers and 38 Operations Centres from 30 countries will be participating in MARISX 2013. They are: Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) countries such as Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, People’s Republic of China, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, the United States and Vietnam; Non-WPNS countries such as Belgium, Brazil, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Myanmar, Oman, Pakistan, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom; International governmental organisations such as International Maritime Bureau (IMB) and Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships Information-Sharing Centre (ReCAAP-ISC). 4th Western Pacific Naval Symposium Multilateral Sea Exercise During the 4th Western Pacific Naval Symposium Multilateral Sea Exercise (WMSX), participating nations will jointly plan (i) a Shore Boarding Exercise; (ii) a Naval Tactical Trainer (NTT) Exercise; and (iii) a Sea Phase Exercise focusing on maritime security operations. A total of ten countries will be participating in the WMSX. In the Shore Boarding Exercise, participating nations will perform compliant boarding using a boarding simulation trainer. The Shore Boarding Exercise aims to enhance mutual understanding and coordination among participating navies, through various boarding scenarios. These professional exchanges will also provide opportunities for the sharing of operational experiences and the exchange of best practices on boarding operations. The NTT Exercise as well as the Sea Exercise aim to strengthen interoperability and mutual understanding among participating navies and maritime agencies through joint planning, shore rehearsals and an exercise out at sea. Participating ships will rehearse their operational plans developed during the joint exercise planning phase, and the ships will be tasked to undertake a spectrum of maritime security operations, including Sea Boarding, Maritime Surveillance Operations (MSO), Search and Rescue and Small Boat Investigations.
