Minister for Defence Visits International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition in Langkawi

Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen attended the opening ceremony of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2013 (LIMA 13) in Malaysia this morning. At the invitation of the Malaysian government, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is also participating in LIMA 13 with a Republic of Singapore Air Force F-16 fighter aircraft and an AH-64 Apache helicopter in the static display, as well as a Republic of Singapore Navy Formidable-class stealth frigate RSS Steadfast, embarked with a Sikorsky S-70B naval helicopter in the maritime display segment.
During his visit to LIMA 13, Dr Ng met with Malaysia's Minister for Defence Dato' Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi. He also interacted with SAF personnel participating in the exhibition. Dr Ng is accompanied by Permanent Secretary for Defence Development Mr Chan Yeng Kit, Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Ng Chee Peng and Chief of Air Staff Brigadier-General Lim Yeong Kiat.
The SAF has participated in LIMA since 2001, underscoring the warm and long-standing defence ties between Singapore and Malaysia. The armed forces of both countries interact regularly through a range of activities, including professional exchanges, cross-attendance of courses as well as bilateral and multilateral exercises.
