The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) will be coming to town with its Formidable-class stealth frigate RSS Intrepid, together with a Sikorsky S-70B naval helicopter docking at VivoCity Promenade for the first time. Held from 15 to 17 March 2013, Navy@Vivo is part of the RSN's community outreach effort. The event will allow the public a chance to visit RSS Intrepid, which has just returned from a successful counter-piracy operation in the Gulf of Aden.
Launching Navy@Vivo this morning, Chief of Navy, Rear-Admiral (RADM) Ng Chee Peng hoped that the event would bring the Navy closer to the public. "With visits to RSS Intrepid and the exhibition in VivoCity, we hope that the public will be able to get a better understanding and awareness of the Navy," said RADM Ng.
Apart from the exhibitions and video screenings on the RSN's missions and operations on board the frigate, the public will also be able to catch the conduct of a ceremonial sunset - a long-standing naval tradition, at 7.15pm daily during Navy@Vivo. In addition, an exhibition has also been set up within VivoCity, where weapons and gear used by the naval divers are on display. Visitors will also get the opportunity to take photographs with members of the Naval Diving Unit and Accompanying Sea Security Team (ASSeT).
Navy@Vivo is open to the public from 4pm on 15 March till 9pm on 17 March 2013. More information can be found on the Navy@Vivo Facebook Page.
