Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman officiated at the 5th Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Senior Military Experts Appointment Ceremony at SAFTI Military Institute this evening, where 50 servicemen were appointed as Military Experts 4. The graduating cohort comprised 28 Military Experts from the Republic of Singapore Air Force, 15 from the Republic of Singapore Navy, three from the Army, and four from Joint Service.
During his speech, Dr Maliki emphasised that Senior Military Experts have to become good role models and lead by example. Addressing the graduands, Dr Maliki said, "As leaders, you have to engage your people to understand their needs and aspirations. This will then allow you to develop them to their fullest potential and lead them well in accomplishing your missions." Dr Maliki also emphasised the importance for Senior Military Experts to build a culture of excellence and to inculcate the SAF core values. On safety as a core value, he said, "As leaders of the Military Experts, you must demonstrate command responsibility and commitment to the safety of your troops by ensuring that safety systems and processes are in place. Strengthen the safety culture of your units, and actively manage risks and enforce safety during execution of mission and training."
The appointment ceremony marked the completion of the Military Domain Experts Course which trained military experts to take on roles in the SAF where in-depth expertise is required. The training conducted during the course enabled the Military Experts to develop their leadership competency, deepen their military domain knowledge and hone their specialisation skills. The newly appointed Senior Military Experts will move on to assume command or staff appointments in their professional areas.
Also present at the ceremony was Chief of Navy Rear-Admiral Ng Chee Peng, other senior SAF officers as well as families and friends of the graduands.
