Fact Sheet: TD 2013 Partnerships

The annual TD campaign involves agencies or organisations from the 3P (people, public and private) sectors to expand and deepen the outreach of the campaign. Ten new partners have come on board for TD 2013 to provide support for the TD Challenge and Total Defence Day Commemoration Event.
Singapore Armed Forces

Various units of the Army, RSN and RSAF supported The TD Challenge and the Commemoration Event. G6 and Army Safety Inspectorate were also part of the team involved in the design of the TD Challenge while 38SCE, Sembawang Air Base and Maritime Security Taskforce put together the interactive displays and activities at the Commemoration Event.

100PLUS (New partner)

In support of TD 2013, 100PLUS will be sponsoring refreshments for the participants of The TD Challenge and visitors to the Commemoration Event. They will also be providing their 100PLUS custom-built transformer sports truck to the Commemoration Event where visitors can try climbing the rock wall on it.

Community Chest

2013 is the second year that Community Chest[1] is supporting the TD Campaign. In this year's campaign, it has supported the charity component of The TD Challenge by raising a total of $223,838.47 for its beneficiaries, where $198,838.47 and $25,000 was contributed by HSBC and Lee Foundation respectively. It is hoped that through this initiative, the participating teams will appreciate that when we come together, regardless of background, age and ability, we can help the less advantaged in the community.

Institute of Technical Education College Central

The school will be showcasing Project SENSES, an integrated community service project in which students create useful inventions to help the lives of people with disabilities. Students will be present at the Commemoration Event to teach visitors who are interested to learn another form of communication - Braille and the Sign Language.

Learning and Development Resources (LDR) (New partner)

Leveraging on infocomm technology, LDR aims to develop new leadership programmes to meet the demands of the public. With their expertise in self-directed, discovery-based and collaborative learning, as well as their deep knowledge in Singapore's (military) history, LDR readily accepted the invitation to conceptualise and execute the activity at the Kranji Battle Field checkpoint of The TD Challenge, to strengthen participants' understanding of the importance of defending our home.

MoneySENSE - Singapore Polytechnic Institute for Financial Literacy (New partner)

The Institute for Financial Literacy is a collaboration between MoneySENSE, the national financial education programme, and Singapore Polytechnic to deliver financial education to equip the public with core financial capabilities. At the Commemoration Event, MoneySENSE will display information on basic financial literacy at their booth and provide four workshops that are open to visitors.

Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) (New partner)

MINDS runs four special education schools, three sheltered workshops, three day activity centres and one multi-service residential facility, serving the needs of persons with intellectual disability from age seven right up to the elderly. Currently, MINDS serves more than 2,300 clients in the 11 facilities located island-wide. An avid partner in TD, MINDS has brought to The TD Challenge 12 persons with intellectual disability. At the Commemoration Event, it will also be showcasing the care and support initiatives that MINDS provides, as well as an array of products made by the beneficiaries.

National Heritage Board

Curating heritage programmes and presenting exhibitions to connect the past, present and future generations of Singaporeans through a shared experience, NHB will be featuring a range of games and quizzes for visitors to better understand the Singapore Story.

National Parks Board and Community in Bloom (New partner)

An initiative by NParks, Community in Bloom (CIB) aims to foster a gardening culture among the people in Singapore through setting up and sustaining their community gardening projects. Volunteers from CIB will be on hand to explain to visitors how they organise, plant and maintain the gardens. They will also showcase some of the crop species they have planted.

OnePeople.sg

As the national body that leads racial harmony initiatives in Singapore, the organisation will be featuring popular games and pastimes from the different communities at the Commemoration Event. These activities aim to create an environment that facilitates deeper interaction and better understanding between individuals and communities, fostering a stronger sense of identity.

People's Association - Active Ageing Council (New partner)

The PA Active Ageing Council promotes community bonding through active ageing programmes in collaboration with the Senior Citizens' Executive Committees and other grassroots organisations and community partners. The Council gathered 16 active agers to participate in The TD Challenge and will also be showcasing their outreach initiatives and a dance item during the Commemoration Event.

POSB Bank

2013 is the third year POSB is supporting the annual TD Campaign[2]. POSB has contributed to TD 2013 by sponsoring the Woodlands Branch POSB as a checkpoint for The TD Challenge and five 40-seater buses to transport the Challenge participants from Woodlands Branch POSB to the next checkpoint.

Project Happy Feet (New partner)

Project Happy Feet (PHF) is a non-profit organisation set up by Singaporeans who believe that education and training can alleviate poverty. PHF hopes to bring fellow Singaporeans together through volunteering for this common cause. It will showcase the milestones and activities that it has organised locally and internationally, and encourage visitors to sign up as volunteers at the Commemoration Event.

Republic Polytechnic

One of the newest tertiary institutes in Singapore, RP has worked closely with the TD 2013 team to provide venue and logistical support for The TD Challenge and the Commemoration Event.

SAFRA Radio

Power 98FM and Jia 88.3FM has been supporting the annual TD campaign and other Nexus projects in the past years, in the form of radio talk shows, commercials, event emceeing and hosting of campaigns.

Sakae Holdings

Sakae Holdings is supporting the annual TD Campaign[3] for the third year running. Similar to the past two years, Sakae Holdings, through Sakae Sushi, will be doing an origami-bento donation drive that will be held from 1 Mar to 31 May 13. For every 10 origami paper human chains folded by customers, Sakae Sushi will donate one bento set to the beneficiaries from the MINDS Fernvale Gardens School, Radin Mas (Elderly) and Canossian School.

Singapore Civil Defence Force

In line with the campaign objective of inspiring Singaporeans to stand together and take up the duty of keeping Singapore safe, SCDF supported The TD Challenge with interactive activities. In addition, SCDF will be engaging guests at the Commemoration Event through interactive displays on SCDF's capabilities and emergency preparedness skills such as CPR and First Aid.

Singapore Disability Sports Council (New partner)

The SDSC is founded on the belief in the dignity, capability and value of persons with disabilities. Its mission is to enable their sportspersons with disabilities to realise their individual potential by providing them with the opportunity to participate and excel in sports both recreationally and competitively. SDSC supported The TD Challenge with two athletes.

Singapore Discovery Centre

The Singapore Discovery Centre (SDC) is dedicated to showcasing the Singapore story and factors underpinning our survival and success through a wide range of creative, experiential and engaging exhibits and programmes that encourage discussion, reflection and self-discovery. SDC was part of The TD Challenge design team and a venue partner for The TD Challenge. Furthermore, the centre will be putting up an interactive exhibition on Total Defence from 29 Jan to 24 Mar 2013.

Singapore Police Force

To raise Singaporeans' awareness of their role in Civil Defence, SPF will be showcasing their crime prevention efforts at the Commemoration Event. Visitors will also be able to learn more about the latest SPF equipment.

Special Olympics (New partner)

Special Olympics Singapore aims to empower persons with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and athletic competition. Providing year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, the organisation has supported TD 2013 by gathering 24 members with intellectual disabilities to take part in The TD Challenge with other members of the public.

Yellow Ribbon Project (Singapore Prisons Service) (New partner)

A supportive partner of TD 2013, Yellow Ribbon Project aims to promote a more accepting society, one that is willing to give ex-offenders a second chance at making good. In celebration of the project's 10th anniversary, the booth will be selling crafts made by the inmates, and spreading the message of giving ex-offenders who desire to change a second chance.

[1] As part of the Charity Component for Total Defence 2011 Campaign ("Home - Keeping it Together"), Nexus worked with Community Chest to organise an online "Click for Charity" fundraising drive, encouraging Singaporeans to help raise funds for needy families and the elderly. The fundraising drive concluded on 15 Mar 11 with the initial target of $200,000 increased mid-way to $300,000.

[2] In 2011, POSB organised a "POSB Build & Protect our Home" competition that was held from 1 Feb 12 to 31 Mar 12. Primary school students were encouraged to think about how they could contribute to Economic Defence by saving up to make Singapore a better home. The bank also sponsored $300,000 for the purchase of airtime on free-to-air television and radio channels for airing of the Home Music Video. In 2012, POSB organised an inter-school (primary and secondary schools only) contest titled "My Turn to Save" which seeks to encourage students to use their creativity to identify an iconic Singapore symbol they would want to protect and build the symbol using recycled materials (plastics bottles, old boxes, drink cans, etc).

[3] Sakae Holdings organised similar origami-bento donation drives for TD 2011 and TD 2012 where Sakae Sushi donated one bento set to the beneficiaries from MINDS Fernvale Gardens School, Radin Mas (Elderly) and Canossian School for every 10 origami paper frogs folded by customers.
