A Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Operationally-Ready National Serviceman (ORNS), Corporal (CPL) (NS) Heng Wei Sian, aged 24, an Armament Specialist Technician from 68th Combat Service Support Battalion, was found lying motionless but conscious in a toilet in Kranji Camp III on 10 Dec 2013 at around 9.20pm. CPL (NS) Heng had just returned to the camp from a night-off during his in-camp training.
Four doctors from his unit attended to him at 9.35pm and the SAF ambulance evacuated CPL (NS) Heng to Kranji Camp II Medical Centre at 9.59pm for further resuscitation. The SAF duty doctor and two of the NS doctors continued to attend to CPL (NS) Heng in the ambulance en route to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH). CPL (NS) Heng arrived at KTPH at 10.37pm. He underwent investigations which showed that he had suffered a stroke. CPL (NS) Heng underwent an emergency operation for the stroke and post-operatively was warded in the Intensive Care Unit. On 20 Dec, 10 days after his stroke and surgery, CPL (NS) Heng succumbed to his illness and passed away.
MINDEF and the SAF extend their deepest condolences to the family of the late CPL (NS) Heng. The SAF is currently providing assistance to CPL (NS) Heng's family.
