Minister of State for Defence Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman officiated at the 6th Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Senior Military Expert Appointment Ceremony at SAFTI Military Institute this evening, where 26 servicemen and a servicewoman were appointed as senior military experts. The graduating cohort comprised nine military experts from the Republic of Singapore Air Force, eight from the Republic of Singapore Navy, six from the Singapore Army and four from Joint.
In his speech, Dr Maliki highlighted that the Military Domain Experts Scheme not only built deep specialisation in the niche areas such as engineering, intelligence and military medicine, but also aimed to develop a breadth of warfighting capabilities that would enable the military experts to better contribute to the SAF. On maintaining the SAF's edge, he urged the graduands to twin their specialist domain knowledge with the SAF's core values and military ethos. Dr Maliki added that the military experts, officers and warrant officers complemented one another to fulfill different roles and functions in the SAF. "In order to anchor important capabilities within the SAF, each corps will need its own set of strong leaders," he said.
The appointment ceremony marked the completion of the Military Domain Experts Course which trained military experts to take on roles in the SAF where in-depth expertise is required. The training conducted during the course enabled the military experts to develop their leadership competency, deepen their military domain knowledge and hone their specialised skills. The newly appointed senior military experts will move on to assume command or staff appointments in their professional areas.
Also present at the ceremony was Chief of Air Force Major-General Hoo Cher Mou, other senior SAF officers as well as families and friends of the graduands.
