MINDEF: National Service Based on Critical Need
We thank Mr Rayner Teo for his feedback in the forum letter titled "Tap NSFs to plug manpower shortage in social services", dated 24 Aug 2013.The peace that we enjoy today cannot be taken for granted. Given our small size, National Service (NS) serves a critical need for defending our peace and security and in safeguarding our way of life. Just as older generations have been committed to NS, we need to continue to strengthen this national institution to ensure that each new generation finds its own commitment to NS.
National servicemen are currently assessed for their suitability, and deployed to their vocations based on operational requirements. We thank Mr Teo for his suggestion on offering more choice for vocational deployment. Within the context of defence, the Committee to Strengthen National Service will consider this feedback during its discussions.
