Graduates of the 11/2012 Specialist Cadet Course,
Parents,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
A very good evening to all of you.
To the graduands on parade, let me congratulate you on successfully completing the Specialist Cadet Course. You have proven that you have the physical capacity and mental strengths to succeed and excel. Your success is by no means your own, but also the success of your families and loved ones, who have supported you in every step of your learning and training journey.
Today's parade marks the beginning of your service to this nation. You will go forth to lead. Your men and women would look upon you for leadership, to protect our people and defend this country.
Threats, military tactics and technologies have evolved over the years but your role as Specialists remain unchanged. Our Specialists and Warrant Officers continue to form the backbone of the SAF, representing the highest military virtues of dedication and discipline.
As leaders, you bear the heavy responsibility for the men and women under your charge. They will look to you for passion, inspiration and support. Therefore, lead with conviction and lead by example. Show genuine care and concern. Look out for their safety and well-being. Spend time with your soldiers and talk to them. Understand their challenges, as you also help them understand what the SAF expects of them. You are the critical link between the soldiers and the SAF leadership.
As Specialists in the 3rd Generation SAF, you will lead in an increasingly complex operating environment. For you to make tough decisions on the ground, you will require not just deep expertise in specialised skills, but a good understanding of the big picture and mission imperatives. The training you received and the values instilled in you will help you excel in your field, overcome adversity, and serve with honour and pride.
SAF's continual effectiveness depends on successive generations of motivated and well trained specialists and soldiers. I am confident your batch of graduands will add to the achievements of the SAF as a credible and potent force. The rank that you are about to wear is an affirmation of the nation's trust and confidence in you.
Live up to the Specialists' creed of excellence, leadership by example and dedication to Singapore. I welcome all of you as Specialists of the SAF, and wish you all the best as you serve our country, and keep it safe for all of us.
WITH PRIDE WE LEAD
