Suspension is not a presumption of guilt
We thank Mr Derek Low for his feedback in the letter dated 7 June 2012 titled "MINDEF's statement on sailor seems unfair".
Under the Singapore Armed Forces (Suspension of Serviceman) Regulations, a regular serviceman may be suspended when an investigation is being conducted or when the serviceman is subjected to criminal or disciplinary proceedings. This policy is applied consistently, including in the instance of Lieutenant Benedict Ang. There is no presumption of guilt. MINDEF will not take disciplinary action against a serviceman if he is subsequently found to be innocent at the conclusion of the criminal or disciplinary proceedings.
