Assoc Prof Fatimah Lateef: Thank you Sir. Can I just find out for the activation of the Mobile Medical Evacuation Team or the MET, which has been recently publicised; how long does it take for them to be activated? And also for the heli-lift or air-lift to be done from say, site on Pulau Tekong, how long is the estimated time for activation? Thank you.
Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen: Sir, again I don't have the answer because it was a specific question but I'll be happy to answer the Member if she files a specific question. But again in overall terms, the Member is quite right. Our emergency medical evacuation follows guidelines put up by the American Heart Association; the so called "Chain of Survival" process, which comprises 5 key components: Early Access, Buddy Aid, Basic Life Support and Early Defibrillation, Advanced Resuscitation, and Evacuation for Continuing Care. I would say that almost all the exercises will have medics on standby so that immediate response to an incident is there. Upon which if evacuation is being activated, then it will be an ambulance from the nearest medical centre. And as I said, medical centres - average distance about 3 to 4 km so it shouldn't take long.
I would also add that in every incident, for an inquiry, or when we review it, these times are stated. Usually they are within quick parameters, but the specific numbers, the Member would have to file a question. Thank you.
