Joint Statement of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense General Tea Banh and Singapore Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense General Tea Banh and Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen met today in the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense. Dr Ng is in Phnom Penh on his first official visit to Cambodia as Singapore's Minister for Defence. During their meeting, General Tea Banh and Dr Ng discussed a wide range of defence and security issues and reaffirmed the warm and friendly bilateral defence relationship between Cambodia and Singapore. General Tea Banh and Dr Ng also acknowledged the value of the regular exchanges of visits as well as the professional interactions between the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and the Singapore Armed Forces.
General Tea Banh and Dr Ng underscored both countries' shared belief that the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and the ADMM-Plus are key components of the regional security architecture. The ADMM and ADMM-Plus are important platforms for strategic dialogue amongst the Defence Ministers on common security issues. General Tea Banh and Dr Ng also reaffirmed the ADMM and ADMM-Plus as key avenues to enhance practical cooperation amongst the regional militaries, which would contribute towards promoting stable military-to-military relations in the region.
In closing, Dr Ng expressed confidence that Cambodia, as Chairman of ASEAN this year, will be able to further strengthen ASEAN, the ADMM and the ADMM-Plus, and to bring ASEAN closer to the vision of an ASEAN Community by 2015. General Tea Banh reassured Cambodia's commitment in enhancing ASEAN Unity for a Harmonized and Secure Community. Both Ministers expressed their support for strong cooperation during Cambodia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN and the ADMM.
