MINDEF clarifies enlistment date
I refer to the letter "Turning 20, and still waiting for call-up" by Mr Joseph Ng.
We thank Mr Ng for his support for National Service. The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) had allowed Mr Ng's son Nicholas to be deferred from full-time National Service until March 2010 to complete his studies. In earlier phone conversations with Nicholas, Central Manpower Base (CMPB) officers had told him that he would be due for enlistment between August and November 2010, after his studies. However, Nicholas was not enlisted due to an administrative oversight. MINDEF apologises to Mr Ng for the error. We have since scheduled for Nicholas to be enlisted on 7 March 2011.
