Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing called on German Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius this afternoon.

Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing called on German Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius this afternoon. They reaffirmed the strong and substantive bilateral defence relations and exchanged views on recent geopolitical developments.
They agreed to further cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including cybersecurity, countering hybrid threats, defence industry, supply chain resilience and upholding international law. Minister Chan welcomed Germany's interest to join the Guiding Principles for Underwater Infrastructure Defence Exchanges (GUIDE), an initiative to bring together countries with common interests in the security of critical underwater infrastructure launched earlier in May 2026 at the Shangri-La Dialogue.
Prior to the call, Minister Chan inspected the Guard of Honour at the Federal Ministry of Defence in Berlin and laid a wreath at Bundeswehr Memorial.
As part of this trip to Germany, Minister Chan will be officiating at the launch of the Republic of Singapore Navy’s first Offshore Patrol Vessel in Berne later tonight (Singapore time).
Minister Chan will also be visiting Oberlausitz Military Training Area the following day to witness Exercise Panzer Strike conducted by the Singapore Army.
Minister Chan’s visit to Germany underscores the strong and substantive defence ties between Singapore and Germany. Both countries cooperate and interact frequently through high-level visits and dialogues, military-to-military exchanges, as well as cross-attendance of professional courses and defence technology collaboration. These interactions have reinforced the relationship between the two defence establishments, underpinned by the enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement signed in 2018.
