The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) commemorated SAF Day at a parade officiated by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at SAFTI Military Institute (SAFTI MI) this evening. More than 3,000 SAF Operationally Ready National Servicemen (NSmen), Full-time National Servicemen and Regulars attended the parade.
This year's SAF Day Parade featured several enhancements to deepen engagement and recognise the contributions of SAF personnel. For the first time, attendees were able to get up close with static displays of military vehicles and equipment. Servicemen and women were present to engage visitors, including approximately 200 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets, sharing insights on each asset's capabilities and giving them a hands-on experience. The Guard of Honour contingent was also expanded from 60 to 72 personnel.
At the parade, Chief of Defence Force Vice Admiral Aaron Beng led SAF personnel in reciting the SAF pledge to reaffirm their loyalty to Singapore and steadfast commitment to its defence, while President Tharman presented the State Colours to this year's Best Combat Unit, the Singapore Army’s 1st Commando Battalion.
In the post-parade segment, Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing presided over the Best Unit Competition and NSman Of the Year awards presentations, recognising 12 active units and 18 National Service units for their outstanding achievements, and 20 NSmen for their sterling contributions.
Also present at the parade were Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Minister of State for Defence Mr Desmond Choo, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mr Goh Pei Ming, the Chiefs of Army, Navy, Air Force, and the Digital and Intelligence Service, as well as other senior officials from MINDEF and the SAF.
