As part of his working visit to Jordan, Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad visited personnel from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) deployed for the airdrop operations earlier today at the King Abdullah II Air Base. Mr Zaqy expressed his appreciation for the SAF personnel’s commitment and professionalism.
During his visit, Mr Zaqy also met personnel from Non-Governmental Organisation, Humanity Matters, and thanked them for contributing additional humanitarian aid supplies which will be airdropped by the SAF in the coming days.
During his engagement with SAF personnel, Mr Zaqy witnessed how the humanitarian loads for air drop operations are prepared by the Singapore Army’s 3rd Transport Battalion. Mr Zaqy was also updated on the various efforts undertaken to execute the operation safely and minimise risk to civilians. These include multinational coordination of the drop zone selection and allocation, aided by commercial satellite imagery, up-to-date ground situation reports, and cross-sharing of lessons learnt.
Sharing his reflections after visiting the SAF personnel, Mr Zaqy said, "This is my third humanitarian mission in the Middle East with the SAF... I recognise the difficulties that our men and women face working in a conflict zone... Despite the security and safety risks, our SAF servicemen and women are committed to ensuring every package lands safely and reaches the people of Gaza... For me, this is more than a military mission... This is Singapore's collective effort, representing our people's compassion and push for humanity."
