Minister Chan Chun Sing Meets Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission General Zhang Youxia in Beijing, China

Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing (left) called on Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission General (GEN) Zhang Youxia (right) at the Bayi Building in Beijing, China today.

During their meeting, Mr Chan (second from left) and GEN Zhang (second from right) reaffirmed the longstanding, warm and friendly bilateral defence relations between Singapore and China.

Mr Chan had a roundtable discussion with senior People’s Liberation Army (PLA) officers at the PLA National Defense University (NDU) earlier this morning.

Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing met Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission General (GEN) Zhang Youxia at the Bayi Building in Beijing, China this afternoon.

Mr Chan and GEN Zhang reaffirmed the longstanding, warm and friendly bilateral defence relations between Singapore and China. Both sides reiterated their commitment to continue frequent military-to-military interactions both bilaterally and multilaterally, and to strengthen people-to-people ties. Mr Chan and GEN Zhang also exchanged views on global and regional security developments.

Earlier this morning, Mr Chan visited the People’s Liberation Army National Defense University (PLA NDU), and was called on by PLA NDU President GEN Xiao Tianliang. At the PLA NDU, Mr Chan delivered a presentation, where he shared about the state of Singapore-China bilateral relations and Singapore’s perspectives on navigating a more fragmented, uncertain and insecure geopolitical environment. Mr Chan also engaged senior PLA and provincial officials in a dialogue on international and security developments.

Mr Chan will speak at the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum’s second plenary session on “Strategic Mutual Trust and Security Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific Region” tomorrow.
