President Tony Tan Keng Yam reviewed a commissioning parade at the SAFTI Military Institute this evening. A total of 425 cadets, comprising 337 from the Army, 48 from the Navy and 40 from the Air Force, were commissioned as officers of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Speaking at the parade, President Tan reminded the graduands of their important role as leaders of the SAF. He said, "You are now ready to take your place in training and leading our soldiers to defend the sovereignty and security of Singapore…Your commissioning affirms Singapore's trust and confidence in you as leaders of tomorrow. I am confident that you will serve with integrity and honour, just like many generations before you." President Tan added that, "As Officers of the SAF, you are responsible for the training, morale and discipline of your soldiers. Through your leadership, your men will find the courage and strength to rise up to the challenges they will face in future."
The parade marked the completion of 38 weeks of rigorous training at the Officer Cadet School. The realistic training conducted during the course sharpened the cadets' combat, planning and leadership skills. The newly commissioned officers will go on to assume command, instructional or staff appointments in the SAF. Also present at the parade were Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen, senior Ministry of Defence officials and SAF officers, as well as families and friends of the newly commissioned officers.
