Minister for Defence Visits People’s Liberation Army Southern Theatre Command

Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing (left) was hosted to a visit to the People’s Liberation Army Southern Theatre Command (PLA STC) headquarters in Guangzhou by PLA STC Commander General (GEN) Wu Yanan (right) yesterday.

During their meeting, Mr Chan (first from left) and GEN Wu (second from right) reaffirmed the close people-to-people ties between the Singapore Armed Forces and the PLA STC.

Mr Chan inspected a Guard of Honour on board the PLA Navy’s Luyang III-class destroyer (Zhanjiang) in Zhanjiang earlier today.

As part of his introductory visit to China, Minister for Defence Mr Chan Chun Sing was hosted to a visit to the headquarters of the People’s Liberation Army Southern Theatre Command (PLA STC) in Guangzhou yesterday. During PLA STC Commander General Wu Yanan’s call on Mr Chan, both sides reaffirmed the close people-to-people ties between the PLA STC and the Singapore Armed Forces, who interact frequently through Exercise Cooperation and Exercise Maritime Cooperation between the armies and navies respectively.

Mr Chan also visited the headquarters of the PLA STC Navy in Zhanjiang today, where PLA STC Navy Political Commissar Vice Admiral Yang Zhiliang called on Mr Chan. Mr Chan inspected a Guard of Honour on board the PLA Navy’s Luyang III-class destroyer (Zhanjiang). In addition, he visited the PLA STC Navy’s shore training facility and was briefed on its simulation training system and damage control centre.
