220 Commissioned as SAF Officers

Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Ms Grace Fu reviewed a commissioning parade at the SAFTI Military Institute this evening. A total of 220 cadets, comprising 159 from the Army, 26 from the Navy and 35 from the Air Force, were commissioned as officers of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
 
Addressing the graduands at the parade, Ms Fu highlighted the importance of a strong SAF in upholding Singapore's sovereignty. She said, "The SAF is vital in making sure our country is safe and secure. The SAF enables us to protect our territorial waters, maintain freedom of navigation and assert our sovereign rights. Your operational capabilities, professionalism, and readiness give Singaporeans assurance that we remain ever vigilant and steadfast in our defence. It is only with security that we can achieve social and economic progress."

Ms Fu also reminded graduands of their responsibility as leaders in the SAF and the importance of inculcating a strong safety culture. She said, "It will be your duty as you assume positions to ensure that the men and women under your charge train well and safely. Training safety is crucial in securing the confidence and support of our people towards National Service. As the SAF strengthens training standards, you will be expected to lead by example and drive a culture of safety on the ground."

The parade marked the completion of 38 weeks of rigorous training at the Officer Cadet School. The realistic training conducted during the course sharpened the cadets' combat, planning and leadership skills. The newly commissioned officers will go on to assume command, instructional or staff appointments in the SAF. Also present at the parade were senior Ministry of Defence officials and SAF officers, as well as families and friends of the newly commissioned officers.
